J like in Jacket (French pronunciation)
Ge/Ja like in George / James
Ch like in Charlie
The above 3 sounds do not exist in Ivrit letters. This is because there are no Ivrit words containing these sounds.
Over the years the need for these sounds became apparent. Not only for writing various names but also, Ivrit has adopted some words from other languages, such as Giraffe and Jacket.
So how do we make these sounds using our Ivrit letters?
We use an apostrophe, after letters to create the sounds like this:
Zayin with apostrophe - 'ז
This will create the sound J like in Jacket (french).
Gimel with apostrophe - 'ג
This will create the sound J like in Jacket (french).
Gimel with apostrophe - 'ג
This will create the sound Ge like in Giraffe / Ja like in Jaz.
Tsadi with apostrophe - 'צ
This will create the sound Ch like in Chips.
This will create the sound Ch like in Chips.
